â QUOTE
Your worst sin is that you have destroyed and betrayed yourself for nothing
Fyodor Dostoevsky. One of the best novelists to ever live. He wrote the classics, The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment (which this quote is from). His novels dig into the psychological and philosophical darkness of the human experience.
This quote is telling us to hold ourselves accountable to the person we want to become. Anxiety, shame, and self-hatred donât do anything except hold us back and deny the world of our greatest gift - US. Believe in yourself. Youâre the main character.
đ COMPANY: ValidatorAI.com
ValidatorAI allows you to validate and receive constructive feedback on any startup idea.
Itâs a simple product. You type your startup idea into a box (the more specific and in-depth, the better) and receive feedback. The trick?
Itâs powered by ChatGPT technology.
I tried it out by telling the Validator I wanted to start a sex candle business and market the product on TikTok. Here was the response it gave:
It also told me to refine the target market and tone down the language to make the product more accessible.
An anecdote: I donât think this is good advice. Not to blame our AI overlords, a lot of people make this mistake. New businesses and startups make their product for everyone, but end up making it for no one.
Iâm bullish on AI products like Validator because it makes our lives easier and our ideas stronger.
đPERSON: Diogenes (late 5th century BC - 323 BC)
What do Elon Musk and Andrew Tate have in common?
No shame, big mouths, and internet superstars.
They find a way to get the people going.
But let me tell you something. They ainât got nothing on Diogenes. The OG shitposter.
If Diogenes were alive today, he would be the king of the internet.
Who was Diogenes?
He was born in the city of Sinope right around the end of Socratesâ life. Influenced by Socrates and once described by Plato as, âA Socrates Gone Mad.â Diogenes is considered the founder of Cynicism.
Cynics believe the end of life is virtue, not pleasure, and it can only be obtained by independence of all earthly possessions and pleasures (sounds a lil Buddhist). Cynicism laid the groundwork for stoicism one of the most popular ancient philosophies still practiced.
To Diogenes the good life (a virtuous life) was simple: Live with virtue. (Emphasis on the simple)
He didnât accept any of the usual benefits of society. Going as far as living in a wooden barrel and only eating onions. He freed himself of the games of status, money, and power. He wanted to be free of societyâs demands and live the simple life of wisdom.
Part of living the simple life of wisdom meant shunning traditions and societal customs. He wasnât concerned about looking virtuous, fitting in with society, or gaining status.
Diogenes becoming a legendary philosopher is like your local homeless man becoming a Twitter influencer. Which is why have these stories:
Once he was caught playing with himself in public. He said he wish it was as easy to get rid of hunger by rubbing himself on the stomach.
When a man called him a dog, he peed on his leg. The man got angry and Diogenes responded, âIf I was a dog, why are you surprised?â
Sentenced to exile from Sinope (his hometown), he told them, âI sentence you to remain in your city.â
When he was sold into slavery the auctioneer asked him what job he was good for. He replied, âBeing a master.â
When Plato defined humans as the only featherless biped. Diogenes walked into Platoâs Academy and laid down a plucked chicken. He said, âBehold, a man.â
One time a son of a loose woman was throwing stones into a crowd. He told him, âBe careful boy. You might hit your father.â
When asked about the right age to get married, he said, âFor a young man, not yet, for an old man, not at all.â
When Alexander the Great asked if there was anything he could do for him. He said, âYes, stand out of my sunlight.â
Do you see why Diogenes would be the king of the internet?
Rumors of his death include voluntary demise by holding his breath, an illness brought on by eating raw octopus, or death by dog bite. Up until his death, he trolled us.
The OG cynic, Diogenes.
