Maybe I shouldn’t call this Monday Morning QB anymore. Happy Labor Day. Hopefully, your boss isn’t a total asshole and you got the day off.
TikTok: Dogs are performative

People’s obsessions with dogs has gone too far. We’re putting them in our wills, taking them on exotic vacations, and flaunting them to strangers like a new designer bag.
Dog owners, especially the kind who buy them only to hold them captive in a 300 sq. ft. apartment, always felt a little off to me.
We get it, Becky. You have a golden doodle scouser from the top breeder in Connecticut. Maybe spend a little less time and money on your dog and a little more time and money on becoming a better person.
Don’t get me started on the under-30 bachelor who gets a dog. What are you trying to do bro? Time for you to start a family or better yet, become a decent human being.
This creator said it best. “There’s too many girls with dogs in New York City, so we need to find a new archetype, cause it’s tired.”
Essay: Monoculture and the Commercialization of Everything
You’ve heard me say it before and you’ll hear me say it again, everything is becoming one culture, driven by capital. My friend, Owen Stoneking, delves into how the conference reshuffling in college football is an example of money perverting the things we love.
Media: Burning Man
This video got taken down from TikTok because it was just too real. Best take on the internet of the Burning Man flooding.

A recent study of more than 10,000 kids in the US found there are big benefits to reading for pleasure. Some of the findings were to be expected – early readers performed better on cognitive tests that measured such factors as verbal learning, memory and speech development, and at school academic achievement

Experience: US Open
The US Open is like Coachella for rich people who weren’t good enough at team sports.
If you’ve never been let me explain it to you:
You arrive on a crowded subway with hundreds of other citizens
You walk to the entrance where 10,000 people are waiting to be let in
Then you try to find a seat on an overcrowded side court where you have to squint to see the scoreboard
You get hungry and pay $32 for overpriced fries, chicken fingers, and a water
Start making your way to Arthur Ashe (the 26k-seat main stadium)
You settle into your seats and realize the players are the size of your thumb
About 15 minutes in, you get tired of it and go get a drink
With a drink in your hand and a little more comfortability, you finally make your way to a riveting sidecourt game and cheer on an upset with a few fellow Americans who have been overserved.
A few pros of going to the US Open:
Atmosphere is electric
People are beautiful
Every now and then you get to watch a world-class player from a few feet away
A few cons:
There are 9 million people in attendance
Everything is pricey
The main stadium is marvelous but also hard to get a good seat in
