I have been “M I A” doing that life thing. It’s pretty fun, you guys should try it.
Anyhow
Everyone wants to grow as a person.
I hear it all the time from peers. “It’s all about growth.” “I am growing so much right now.” “That trip taught me a lot about myself".”
Amazing. Great. Still, many people confuse saying they are growing with the action of actually growing.
So, here’s the framework.
I learned it from Tim Ferris.
Whenever you are contemplating a decision, there is only one thing you should consider.
What is the WORST possible outcome?
If everything goes wrong what’s the worst thing that happens? You choke in front of 1,000 people, get embarrassed in front of your crush, attacked by a mad man, or lose your job? Ask yourself, what is the outcome I am most afraid of.
And if it happens, what will happen to me?
The thing is most of the time the worst case scenario is not that bad. It’s in our head. We are scared of something inconsequential to our lives.
Learn to accept the worst outcome. Early on, you should expect it to train yourself to be okay with failure. As time goes on you will learn to be okay with any outcome.
The only way to get better at something is to do it. Here’s your Friday sign to do something today that makes you uncomfortable and scared. Don’t talk to me about the outcome, talk to me about the experience of doing it.
Good outcomes will come, but you have to accept the worst ones first.
